MOYERS: And yet we all have lived a life that had a purpose. Do you believe that? CAMPBELL: I don't believe life has a purpose. Life is a lot of protoplasm with an urge to reproduce and continue in being. MOYERS: Not true -- not true. CAMPBELL: Wait a minute. Just sheer life cannot be said to have a purpose, because look at all the different purposes it has all over the place. But each incarnation, you might say, has a potentiality, and the mission of life is to live that potentiality.

Islam's large scale success in a short period of human history is being ignored by USA, how hate motivates, the exclusive in-group membership. We can't play those games unless we want to murder and kill like Islam historically has - and Donald Trump to me (RoundSparrow) represents the desire for people to fight that same way - but the opposite is far better choice. Why are we so afraid of Martin Luther King Jr's world? Kindness and compassion? Why does it repulse us so much. Finnegans Wake is a useful tool along with Bloom's work
Dr. John W Perry talks about having to get into the Cambridge Analytica depth of emotion to really motivate crowds, and Bloom sees this in Islam history. Butchinger motivates groups, especially the idea of the grat party that comes after winning- but violence tends to be passed down and learned as the 'best answer' to problems, which is why I (RoundSparrow) disagree with it. Technology alone, as MLK Jr spelled out too, will be our undoing. Be it media technology to make mob mentality or violence itself.

Series of "Tweets" I made on Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@RoundSparrow/111823557358377977
Humanity, the modern Internet of 2024, has almost entirely lost sense of how much of a struggle it was for people to escape #DarkAges of #Europe run by a Clergy that #MockedAudience with falsehoods from 1200 year old imported #Levant story books!
Humanity has ALWAYS favored fiction, not truth & #science
If people want to throw out authentic truth & science in favor of liars & deceivers as leaders... a massive failure of edu understanding. #CarlSagan prediction in 1995, nearly 30 years ago:

RoundSparrow has same attitude - no interest in these topics except that they have changed real lives. This isn't fiction.

“There is no greater impotence in all the world like knowing you are right and that the wave of the world is wrong, yet the wave crashes upon you.” ― Norman Mailer
"information overload"
“I think this is part of the artist’s world. The artist, when he encounters the present… is always seeking new patterns, new pattern recognition, which is his task. The absolute indispensability of the artist is that he alone in the present can give the pattern recognition. He alone has the sensory awareness necessary to tell us what our world is made of. He is more important than the scientist. The scientists are going to wake up to this shortly and will resort en mass to the artist’s studio in order to discover the forms and the matter they are dealing with.”

With my autism and 15 years of being in adult autism support groups all over the Internet, I know it is my attraction to FInnegans Wake. Competition in killing machines, etc. It had gone to far in World War One with chemical warfare, and by 1938 publication of the final ages of Finnegans Wake, gone too far in Nazi Germany.
Why is making the case for compassion so hard? It should sell itself. Joseph Campbell seemed to struggle his whole life churning out book after book, lecture after lecture, up to his very fial age 83 - trying to get us to see we all dream of Compassion - yet we don't seem to build it.

Ben Folds Five - Philosophy (from Sessions at West 54th)
A low point for me in this project. I believe that learning, art, what we study and teach to our children - determines much of our behavior. I have had the privileged of living in other parts of the world, even experiencing a Internet revolution, and seeing my whole life how people's behavior change when you are the first in town with a new technology of media.
If we teach our children that dominating mocking and war are the best of humanity and we can never do better ignores the progress education has made. We can make choices to translate religion to religion, to translate compassion to a world-wide one. To not program into children that killing and destroying those of other races and geographic is fun sport. Wake up from the nightare of history.
Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd - The Wall - 4K Remastered
One of the problems of eliminating war is we need art that teaches children and adult alike to not create war. We need to emotionally relate to war well enough to understand the mental pathways within us that evolution has created.
